Washington Post: David Burnett reflects on an iconic moment missed
The Washington Post has posted a very interesting article by David Burnett who remembers the day that Associated Press photographer Nick Ut made his famous "napalm girl" image during the Vietnam War. Burnett, then 25 and a stringer for Time and Life magazines, was in the same location at the same time but was delayed by about 30 seconds trying to reload his Leica and missed the telling moment that turned Ut's photograph into an iconic anti-war image. The Post story includes a few previously unpublished pictures that Burnett shot that day.

Thunderbolt Update 1.2 for Mac causing boot-up problems (updated)
Among Apple's flurry of software releases yesterday was Thunderbolt Update 1.2, an update of Mac OS X 10.7.4 that adds support for the Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter accessory. Installing the updater on site co-editor Mike's Sturk's MacBook Pro 15-inch has brought his computer to its knees. Clive Rose goes swimming with a Canon EOS-1D X, Olympics in mind
Recently, a great underwater picture from the Olympic Games Synchronized Swimming qualifications in London really caught our eye. When we got in touch with him, Rose agreed to give us the lowdown on how he did it. And it turned out that he had a couple of surprises up his sleeve. Rose made the shot using a pre-production Canon EOS-1D X while testing a system for shooting underwater that Getty and Canon together have been developing specifically for the upcoming London Olympics. Here’s what Rose told us about shooting his fine photo, his path to a career in sports photography, and the challenges of shooting sports.
