Microsoft launches lucrative Future Pro Photographers contest
Thursday, May 4, 2006 | by Eamon Hickey

Microsoft has announced the inaugural Microsoft Future Pro Photographers Photography Contest. It's open to photographers 18 years or older who are currently enrolled in a two-year, four-year, or advanced degree granting college or university.

The grand prize is US$20,000 in cash plus thousands of dollars worth of computer hardware and software, including a Canon EOS 30D, a Dell workstation computer, an Epson Stylus Photo 2400 printer, and Adobe Creative Suite 2. A personal portfolio review by the Corbis photo agency is also included.

Three "first prizes" will also be awarded and include US$2,000 in cash, the EOS 30D, and what appears to be the same collection of computer hardware and software as in the grand prize (because the Dell workstation is not exactly specified we can't tell if it's the same in both prizes).

Entries will be accepted online only, and the submission deadline is May 31, 2006. Note that on May 5, 2006, Microsoft amended (for the better) the usage rights clause of the contest's submission guidelines. Information on that is in a separate article.
