onOne updates DSLR Camera Remote Server, releases "Classic" version
Wednesday, August 24, 2011 | by Rob Galbraith
onOne Software has released an update of DSLR Camera Remote Server, the companion application to their series of DSLR Camera Remote apps for Apple's iOS devices. DSLR Camera Remote Server 1.4.2 for Mac and Windows corrects a JPEG rotation bug and is compatible with a long list of Nikon and newer Canon digital SLRs.

Connected: DSLR Camera Remote Server 1.4.2 for Mac

DSLR Camera Remote Server 1.4.2 is available through the check for updates feature of the application, or you can download an installer from the links below:
Also out is DSLR Camera Remote Server Classic 1.4.2 for Mac and Windows. This is a special version of the software intended for use only with the older Canon digital SLRs cameras listed below:
  • EOS Rebel XTi/400D
  • EOS 20D
  • EOS 30D
  • EOS 5D
  • EOS-1D Mark II
  • EOS-1D Mark II N
  • EOS-1Ds Mark II
Support for these cameras was recently removed from the standard version of DSLR Camera Remote Server. This was a byproduct of onOne Software building their application around a newer release of Canon's software development kit (SDK), as they must do to be able to work with the newest Canon models. The Classic version utilizes an earlier iteration of Canon's SDK and can therefore communicate with the cameras listed above.

If your collection of cameras requires you to use both the standard and Classic releases of DSLR Camera Remote Server, onOne's Mike Wong indicates that it's fine to have both versions installed on your Mac or Windows computer at the same time, but you can't have them running at the same time. Switching between, say, an older Canon requiring the Classic server and a newer Canon requiring the standard server is as simple as quitting one version of the server and launching the other, he says.
