Nikon and Nik Software announce collaboration
Tuesday, February 14, 2006 | by Rob Galbraith

Nikon and Nik Software have jointly announced a "technological collaboration between the two companies to develop and distribute digital photographic software and imaging technologies." Nik Software (formerly known as nik multimedia) is the maker of the Sharpener Pro plug-in for Photoshop, as well as Color Efex Pro, which is available as both a Photoshop plug-in and an add-on to Nikon Capture 4.x.

It has been rumoured for some time that Nik Software has been readying itself to play a larger role in the development of Nikon's imaging applications, and that the Japanese camera maker may be planning to take a financial stake in the San Diego-based software firm. Today's announcement seems to confirm those rumours, including the fact that Nikon has made a capital investment in Nik. Neither Nikon's or Nik's statements, however, provide specifics about the focus of their new team effort, other than to say it "will further the development of next-generation digital imaging software."
