Phase One yesterday released version 3.6 of its trio of C1 applications for digital SLR and compact cameras.
C1 PRO, SE and LE are all available for download from Phase One's web site, though for Mac OS X only (v10.2.8 or later). The Windows release of 3.6 is expected to follow on December 20, 2004.
Changes in the Mac version of C1 PRO include additional metadata support, a new file browser, before/after image previewing, HTML contact sheet creation (using the low-res files already created by the software), an improved 2-up and 4-up image comparison view (with smarter keyboard shortcuts) and enhanced image quality from Olympus cameras.
New cameras are also supported, including the Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II, EOS 20D and Fujifilm FinePix S3 Pro. Plus, there is a helpful Flash-format introduction to the program that does a good job of demonstrating how to get started (including the creation of a new Session to begin looking at RAW files, which is a process that may not be obvious to C1 newcomers).
More information on the changes in v3.6, both for the now-released Mac version and the upcoming Windows version, is on the Phase One web site.
With this release, the SE version of C1 is being phased out; in the future, SE owners are expected to move to the PRO version of the program. A posting by Michael Tapes, proprietor of rawworkflow.com and a C1 reseller, describes the status of SE and the upgrade options available.
