On its Lens blog, the New York Times has published a long interview with photographers Joao Silva and Greg Marinovich titled "The Inner Lives of Wartime Photographers". The interview was conducted by the paper's executive editor, Bill Keller, who asks the two men about what motivates combat photographers and how they think about the risks involved.
Silva was severely wounded last year when he stepped on a land mine while covering the war in Afghanistan. The interview was conducted at Walter Reed Army Medical Center where Silva is recovering. He and Marinovich have been close friends and colleagues since their days covering strife in South Africa, famously chronicled in the book, "The Bang Bang Club", which is now also a movie.
