Nikon announces Stereo Microphone ME-1 for digital SLRs
Monday, April 4, 2011 | by Rob Galbraith
Nikon's second announcement of the day is the Stereo Microphone ME-1, an ultra-compact unidirectional stereo condenser microphone featuring a hot shoe mount, 3.5mm stereo output connector, low-cut filter, removable windscreen and "noise dampening components designed to minimize noise resulting from AF operation," says a press release.

The ME-1 is meant for use with Nikon digital cameras that incorporate a stereo audio input jack, including the D3S, D300S, D7000, D5100 and P7000. The new microphone does not require a battery; instead, it draws power from the connected camera.

The ME-1 is expected to be compatible with any audio capture device with a 3.5mm input.

Other ME-1 features include a cable gutter to minimize the cable's rubbing against the microphone body, gold-plated 3.5mm jack, 70-16,000Hz frequency response and 60db signal-to-noise ratio.

Price and availability

The Nikon Stereo Microphone ME-1 is to ship later this month at an estimated selling price of US$179.95 in the U.S.
