4GB Microdrive now shipping to retailers
Thursday, October 30, 2003 | by Rob Galbraith

The Hitachi 4GB Microdrive, announced earlier this year and originally slated to ship to retail stores in November 2003, is beginning to emerge on store shelves a bit ahead of schedule this week in the US.

Bill Heybruck, Senior Applications Engineer with Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (HGST), indicates that limited quantities of the latest Microdrive model have been delivered to some retailers, and that at least one retailer has it for sale at the PhotoPlus Expo show in New York, which commenced today.

The street price, at least initially, appears to be just shy of the 4GB Microdrive's US$499 suggested list price. The 2GB Microdrive is not expected to be released until late November 2003 at the earliest.
