Pretec 4GB 133X SD card to go into mass production in August
Thursday, July 28, 2005 | by Rob Galbraith

Pretec has announced they will add a 4GB card to their line of 133X-rated Secure Digital (SD).

The card, which conforms to the SD v1.1 specification, is to go into mass production in August 2005. It's expected to ultimately ship at a price of US$699 (the press release doesn't indicate if this is MSRP or the usually-lower street price).

As with a number of previous Pretec announcements, the company makes claims about the performance of their CompactFlash and SD cards that haven't been substantiated in our testing, though their products are usually reasonably quick.

They have also reduced the price of their 12GB CompactFlash card from US$9999 to US$4999 (their web site doesn't reflect the new price yet), though it remains vastly more expensive on a per-MB basis than competing high-capacity CompactFlash cards, such as SanDisk's Ultra II 8MB.
