Monday, July 11, 2011 | by Rob Galbraith
Nikon today has announced the AF-S DX Micro Nikkor 40mm f/2.8G, a macro lens designed expressly for use on its DX-series digital SLR cameras.

It offers a close-focus distance of 6.4in/16.3cm and utilizes Nikon's Close-Range Correction System for promised superior optical performance at close distances. The new lens is capable of a 1:1 reproduction ratio.

Other features include a rounded seven-blade diaphragm, Silent Wave autofocus (the lens incorporates an M/A switch), a length of 2.7in/6.9cm and a weight of 9.9oz/281g. A lens hood comes with the lens.

The AF-S DX Micro Nikkor 40mm f/2.8G is to ship in August for an estimated street price of US$279.95 in the U.S.
