The EOS-1Ds has left the building: Canon's 11MP digital SLR began to ship from the company's Chicago-area warehouse on November 22, says Canon USA's Chuck Westfall. The camera should begin to arrive at dealers across the US this week, though in limited quantities; supply of the camera is expected to remain tight at least through the end of 2002.
Mac users will find a welcome surprise in the box: an OS X version of Canon File Viewer Utility. Canon's software team completed the version for Apple's latest operating system ahead of schedule, allowing for it, along with versions for OS 9 and Windows, to be bundled with the EOS-1Ds from the outset. File Viewer Utility (the OS X version only) is to be posted as a free download for Canon EOS D30, D60 and EOS-1D shooters by the end of the year, says Westfall.
