PhotoRescue update supports more RAW files, improves recovery algorithms
Friday, March 25, 2005 | by Rob Galbraith

DataRescue has updated PhotoRescue Wizard and Photo Rescue Expert for both Windows and Mac.

Changes in the powerful photo recovery tool include:

  • New or improved support for the recovery of RAW files from the Canon EOS-1D Mark II, Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II, Fujifilm FinePix S3 Pro, Epson R-D1 and Leaf Volare.

  • Numerous enhancements to the recovery algorithms. As an example of the sort of recovery tweaks implemented in this release, DataRescue's Pierre Vandevenne indicates that they changed the way the program deals with bogus file system entries based on an analysis of a customer's iPod drive image.

These improvements are rolled into v2.1.0 Build 674 of PhotoRescue Wizard and Expert for Windows, and v2.1.0 Build 675 of PhotoRescue Wizard and Expert for Mac.

Licensed users of the Wizard version of PhotoRescue that have purchased the software in about the last 13 months can simply download and install the Windows or Mac demo. The registration from a previous version will automatically be recognized and the software will switch from demo to fully-functioning mode.

Licensed users of the Expert version of PhotoRescue for either computer platform, who have purchased the software in about the last 13 months, must send an update request to Data Rescue via this web page.

PhotoRescue Wizard or Expert is US$29. A bundle that includes Expert versions for both Windows and Mac is US$49. Demo versions for both Windows and Mac are available.
