Canon USA's Chuck Westfall indicates that the worldwide release date for Digital Photo Professional, Canon's new browsing and RAW file processing software, has been set for May 20, 2004.
The software, which can adjust and convert RAW files taken with a Canon pro digital SLR, will be freely downloadable from one or more Canon web sites.
EOS Viewer Utility, the much-improved follow-on to File Viewer Utility, will also be made available as a no-charge download on that day. Both programs are bundled with the EOS-1D Mark II, but have not otherwise been made available.
The initial release of Digital Photo Professional supports RAW files from the the EOS-1D, EOS-1Ds and EOS-1D Mark II only. Westfall notes that Canon has committed to supporting RAW files taken with the EOS 10D and Digital Rebel/300D also, in a future update to the program. The release date for that update has not been set.
There are no plans to enable processing of RAW files from the EOS D30 and D60 within Digital Photo Professional.
