Lexar announces tiny USB flash drive
Wednesday, December 15, 2004 | by Eamon Hickey
Lexar has announced a new USB flash drive, dubbed the USB FlashCard, that the company says is similar in volume to an SD card.

Lexar's press release says the company plans to introduce versions in capacities from 16MB to 1GB by the end of 2005.

As of now, the USB FlashCard, which has a metal rather than plastic housing, would have the same range of uses as other USB flash drives such as Lexar's own JumpDrives. But Lexar is clearly hoping to get consumer electronics manufacturers to build compatible USB connectors into their devices, allowing the FlashCard to be used in place of other forms of flash media such as CompactFlash and SD cards.

Lexar's press release does not give any pricing or availability information.
