Apple announces G5 processor-based desktop Macs

Apple today announced the first desktop Macs to utilize the PowerPC 970 processor from IBM. The processor, dubbed the G5, is at the heart of three new desktop configurations running at 1.6GHz, 1.8GHz and dual 2.0GHz, respectively. The new models are to ship in August 2003.
