Adobe releases Lens Profile Creator, readies other utilities
Friday, April 30, 2010 | by Rob Galbraith
Adobe has posted for download Lens Profile Creator 1.0 for Mac and Windows, its utility for generating lens profiles to be used with the Lens Correction tool in Photoshop CS5. These profiles will also be compatible with the soon-to-be-released Camera Raw 6.1 for Photoshop CS5 and the upcoming Photoshop Lightroom 3.

Lens Profile Creator 1.0 is a free download from the Adobe Labs website.

Creating custom Photoshop CS5 panels will soon be possible as well. Adobe's Configurator 2.0 panel creation app is nearing public release. Customs panels made for Photoshop CS4 can be easily converted for use in Photoshop CS5 using Configurator 2.0. The capabilities of the app itself have been expanded to include more control over a panel's appearance, while there is now a much longer list of Photoshop commands that can be added. Panels can also be made for InDesign CS5 with Configurator 2.0. The new Configurator version, however, will not create panels for use in Photoshop CS4, you'll need to stick with Configurator 1.5.x for that.

If you haven't tried creating custom panels for Photoshop CS4 and now CS5, you've been missing out on a sleek and simple way to organize your workflow within Adobe's flagship image editor.

Another Adobe utility, one that enables printing without the use of colour management, is also being readied. One intended use is the printing of ICC profiling targets, since Photoshop CS5's print feature lacks the no colour management option of previous Photoshop releases. It will be made available for download on the Adobe Labs website.
