GretagMacbeth prepping new Eye-One software, hardware
Monday, October 3, 2005 | by Rob Galbraith

GretagMacbeth is readying both a new release of Eye-One Match software as well as new hardware for inclusion in certain Eye-One colour management packages.

Eye-One Match v3.3

GretagMacbeth has informed its network of dealers that Eye-One Match v3.3 is slated to ship later this week. The new version adds a simple profile editing module to the Mac and Windows software that's included with all Eye-One systems. The release of this version will fulfill a promise GretagMacbeth made late last year to weave a profile editor into the software.

Eye-One Match v3.3 is scheduled to be posted for download on the GretagMacbeth web site on October 6, 2005. The profile editing module should automatically be enabled in the new version for anyone who purchased Eye-One Photo, Eye-One Proof or Eye-One XT after mid-December 2004. It will be available as an extra-cost upgrade for owners of an older Eye-One Pro spectrophotometer as well, though this may not coincide with the software's release.

New Scanning Ruler, Backing Board and Case

Later this month, GretagMacbeth will begin shipping a new scanning ruler, a white-surface "backup" board and soft case with all Eye-One packages that include an Eye-One Pro spectrophotometer.

The new ruler and backup board are designed to allow for one-handed scanning; the ruler is usable with or without the backup board. The backup board itself has a white surface, will take papers up to 3mm in thickness and is foldable. A new soft case will house all Eye-One components, including the new ruler and backup board. Also to be bundled in the package are four Photoshop filters from nik multimedia and an offer to purchase additional filters at a reduced price.

Dealers have been notified that Eye-One packages that include these new components are to ship roughly the week of October 17, 2005. An upgrade kit for existing Eye-One system owners, comprised of the ruler, backup board and soft case, will also be made available sometime in the first half of November 2005. GretagMacbeth is also rolling out an upgrade program for owners of Rev A Eye-One Pro devices that enables the purchase of an Eye-One package including the new components and a faster Rev B Eye-One Pro at a reduced cost. And finally, the company has set November 1, 2005 as the target ship date for the Eye-One iO automated scanning table.
