Canon releases firmware updates for EOS-1D Mark III, EOS-1Ds Mark III
Tuesday, April 29, 2008 | by Rob Galbraith
Canon today has released firmware updates for its latest 1-series digital SLRs. Firmware v1.2.3 for the EOS-1D Mark III and v1.1.2 for the EOS-1Ds Mark III include both feature additions and promised improvements to AI Servo autofocus.

The feature additions in both cameras include:
  • A more functional multicontroller Previously, the multicontroller's autofocus functionality was limited to toggling between two AF points. Now, it can be used to navigate around all the selectable autofocus points, in a manner similar to other Canon multicontroller-equipped digital SLRs. This new capability can be enabled and configured via C. FnIII-9.

  • Two new button customizations One enables the AF point selection and exposure compensation buttons to switch jobs, while the other enables the exposure compensation and ISO buttons to do the same. These new options are in C. FnIV-3.

Switcheroo: New button customization options in C. FnIV-3

Plus, the EOS-1D Mark III gains the wireless flash configuration and zoom setting options already present in the EOS-1Ds Mark III, and both cameras are said to deliver better AI Servo autofocus when photographing low contrast subjects.

The download page for EOS-1D Mark III firmware v1.2.3 describes the changes this way:
