DigiTimes: µcard, new storage card format
Tuesday, August 10, 2004 | by Eamon Hickey

DigiTimes is reporting that Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute and some Taiwanese chip manufacturers will announce a new type of memory card, called the "µcard", in early October.

The somewhat sketchy report says that the card format will have a 2-terabyte maximum storage capacity and a maximum theoretical data transfer rate of 120MB per second, which is about 7 times faster than than the maximum transfer rate cited for CompactFlash in the article. The cards are almost the same size as SD cards.

Note that the performance and capacity specs cited above are theoretical maximums; there is no information on what the actual figures will be for the first cards scheduled to ship in early 2005.
