Open source project seeks to create next-gen photographic lighting
Tuesday, June 21, 2011 | by Eamon Hickey
An open source project coordinated by an organization called Rift Labs is working to develop next generation lights for video and photography. The project is open to contributions of ideas and expertise from anyone. Rift Labs intends to build and sell lights based on the designs that result from the project, but all the designs and accompanying software are open source, meaning anyone else can also produce the products or modify the designs to produce something new.

The first product under development is an LED  constant light panel code-named "Floyd", which is slated to have infinitely adjustable color temperature and electronic filtering, among other unusual features.
