nik multimedia today has announced Sharpener Pro 2.0, an update to its sharpening software for Windows and Mac OS X.
The new version of the Photoshop plug-in adds support for 16 bits per colour photos, a RAW presharpen mode to compensate for the softening introduced by a camera's optical low-pass filter (in addition to sharpening for printing and other output) and the ability to selectively apply sharpening to a photo using two different methods.
nik Sharpener Pro is to ship in June 2005 direct from nik multimedia as well as pro photo retailers. Two versions will be released: nik Sharpener Pro 2.0 Inkjet Edition for US$169.95 and nik Sharpener Pro 2.0 Complete Edition for US$329.95.
Though the press release doesn't specify, the Complete Edition presumably includes modules for inkjet, offset press and other forms of output. Upgrade pricing for existing Sharpener Pro users will be offered; see the nik web site for details.
