Leica announces 37MP digital SLR-style S2 camera
Monday, September 22, 2008 | by Rob Galbraith
The UK's Professional Photographer magazine indicates that Leica has announced the S2, a new digital SLR-style camera that contains a 37MP, 30 x 45mm image sensor. The S2 is the first product announced in the German company's new S system, which also includes nine lenses for use with the larger-than-35mm format found in the S2.

Photos of the Leica S2 and several of its lenses are in a British Journal of Photography blog posting. More information is on the Leica website as well.

Separately, Phase One and Leica have said today that they've formed a long-term strategic alliance, the timing of which could mean that Phase One has played a role in the development of the S2 or software for it, though the release doesn't give any details about the nature of the alliance.

Thanks to Robert Goddyn and Walter Rowe for bringing this to our attention.
