Reuters, Canon, and Adobe collaborating on image authentication system
Wednesday, December 13, 2006 | by Eamon Hickey

Tom Glocer, chief executive officer of Reuters, has announced that his wire service is working with Canon and Adobe to create a system that will allow photo editors to view an audit trail of changes made to a digital image. The record of editing changes will be permanently embedded in the image file itself.

The announcement, which includes no details on how this system will work or when it will become available, is a small part of a speech about the role of professional news organizations in the age of "citizen journalism" that Glocer delivered to the Globes Media Conference in Tel Aviv this past Monday, December 11, 2006. The text of the speech has been posted on Glocer's blog; the announcement of the image authentication development effort occurs about 3/4ths of the way into the text.
