Tests show airport x-ray scanners don't harm digital media cards
Wednesday, December 15, 2004 | by Eamon Hickey
The International Imaging Industry Association (I3A) has released test results showing that airport x-ray scanners currently in use in the U.S. do not harm digital camera media cards or the images stored on them.

The tests were jointly conducted by the I3A, SanDisk Corporation, and the U.S. Transportation Security Administration and included tests of equipment used to scan both checked and carry-on bags, as well as hand-held metal detector wands.

Film shooters should note that the tests found that x-ray scanners for both checked and carry-on luggage can fog both developed and undeveloped film, so hand inspection is recommended for anyone travelling with film.
