GretagMacbeth has informed its network of retailers that two of the packages within the ProfileMaker family can be sold at 50% off the manufacturer's suggested list price (MSRP) in separate one-day sales this month.
First up is ProfileMaker 5 Publish Plus, a colour management suite aimed at prepress/publishing types who need deep support for the creation and utilization of multi-colour profiles (this package is probably not of interest to most pro shooters). The U.S. MSRP is US$4495, and will sell on December 7, 2005 only for US$2247.50. The typical U.S. street price for this package is just a few hundred dollars lower than MSRP, so the one-day price of US$2247.50 represents a substantial savings. More information is in a GretagMacbeth promo flyer.
On December 14, 2005 a similar deal is being offered on ProfileMaker 5 Photostudio, a package aimed at the colour-savvy photographer. Photostudio can create profiles for digital cameras, monitors(LCD/CRT), printers (RGB, CMYK, Hexachrome and CMYK+Red/Green). The Editor, ColorPicker and MeasureTool (basic functionality) modules are also enabled in this iteration of ProfileMaker. The U.S. MSRP is US$2495, and will sell on December 14, 2005 only for US$1247.50. Like Publish Plus, the typical U.S. street price for this package is no more than a few hundred dollars lower than MSRP, which makes the software a relative bargain at just under US$1250.
Note that both packages are software-only; a supported measurement device, such as the Eye-One Pro spectrophotometer, is required to make full use of program features. And, in the case of Photostudio, a target such as the Digital ColorChecker SG is needed for the creation of digital camera profiles. Also, it appears that some retailers are already taking orders at the one-day sale price, though presumably the orders won't be completed or shipped until the promo day.
