onOne announces Genuine Fractals beta program
Thursday, January 25, 2007 | by Rob Galbraith
onOne Software has today kicked off a public beta program for the next version of Genuine Fractals, the venerable image resampling plug-in for Photoshop. Genuine Fractals 5.0 for Windows and Mac features promised improvements in both resampling quality and resampling speed and includes new controls for sharpening and adding simulated film grain. The Mac version is a Universal Binary for native performance on both PowerPC- and Intel-based Macs.

Genuine Fractals 5.0 will process both 8-bits per colour and 16-bits per colour RGB images; Genuine Fractals Print Pro 5.0 can process CMYK and LAB images too. The software is compatible with Photoshop CS2 and CS3 beta on both Windows and Mac, as well as Photoshop Elements 4 and 5 on Windows (XP and Vista). To download Genuine Fractals 5 Public Beta 1 you must first register and be accepted as a tester.

Genuine Fractals 5.0 and Genuine Fractals Print Pro 5.0 are slated for release shortly after Photoshop CS3 ships later this year. Both versions will be free to those who purchased a comparable Genuine Fractals 4.1 product on or after December 18, 2006, or US$69.95 to upgrade if purchased before that date. A new license of Genuine Fractals 5.0 will be US$159.95; Genuine Fractals Print Pro 5.0 will be US$299.95.
