Nikon unveils 24-85mm, 18-300mm lenses

Later this month, Nikon will begin shipping two new zoom lenses, the AF-S 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR and AF-S DX 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR.

AF-S 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR

The new FX Format zoom features 16 optical elements in 11 groups and a design that incorporates one extra-low dispersion (ED) glass element, three aspherical lens elements, a seven-blade aperture diaphragm and four-stop VR II image stabilization with automatic tripod detection. It can focus as close as 1.25ft/38cm at all focal lengths, has a 72mm front filter size and comes with both a lens hood and soft lens case.

AF-S DX 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR

With a 16.7x zoom range and a full-frame focal length equivalent of 27-450mm, Nikon's newest DX Format offering is aimed at travel shooters and others who want one lens to do it all. The AF-S DX 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR consists of 19 optical elements in 14 groups with three ED glass elements, three aspherical lens elements, a nine-blade aperture diaphragm and four-stop VR II image stabilization. The lens' close focus specification is 1.48ft/45cm at the 300mm focal length, it has a 77mm front filter size, includes a zoom lock switch and comes with both a lens hood and soft lens case.

Price and ship date

The AF-S 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR has an expected street price of US$599.95 in the U.S., while the AF-S DX 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR is to sell for US$999.95. Both lenses have U.S. ship dates of June 28, 2012.
