Les Hinton, the CEO of the
Wall Street Journal's
parent company, Dow Jones & Co., says the newspaper has an "astounding" 200,000 paid iPad, Kindle, and other tablet device subscribers, according to a report on the
Boston Herald's web site
story, written by Jay Fitzgerald, paraphrases Hinton as saying that this confirms that the future of journalism will increasingly comprise delivering content to readable mobile devices.
Hinton, who was speaking at Boston College, said that 150,00 of those subscribers have been added in the past 12 months thanks largely to the introduction of the Apple iPad. The
Wall Street Journal charges mobile customers $3.99 per week.
