Gefen, Belkin introduce wireless USB hubs
Thursday, January 5, 2006 | by Rob Galbraith

Gefen and Belkin this week have announced wireless USB products that could potentially provide a powerful new way for photographers to link USB digital cameras, card readers and other devices to a computer over a wireless link. Both the Gefen Wireless USB Extender and Belkin CableFree USB Hub consist of a four-port USB 2.0 hub/transmitter and a companion receiver unit that connects to a computer. Though expected to be several hundred dollars initially, these devices represent an interesting alternative to dedicated Wi-Fi transmitters from Canon and Nikon.

We look forward to seeing this category of products evolve. Both the Gefen Wireless USB Extender and Belkin CableFree USB Hub are expected to ship by the end of March 2006, says an article on the ExtremeUWB web site.
