CE PocketWizard MiniTT1, FlexTT5 released to distributors in Europe, elsewhere
Tuesday, August 4, 2009 | by Rob Galbraith
LPA Design has announced the CE versions of the PocketWizard MiniTT1 and FlexTT5 for Canon have been shipped to distributors in several countries in Europe plus Australia, New Zealand and United Arab Emirates. While nearly identical in functionality to US PocketWizards sold in North America, South America and parts of Asia, the CE models operate in a different frequency band.

The countries whose distributors have now or will soon receive shipments are:
  • Australia
  • Bulgaria
  • Denmark
  • France
  • Germany
  • Greece
  • New Zealand
  • Norway
  • Poland
  • Russia
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • Switzerland
  • United Arab Emirates
  • United Kingdom
Other countries in Europe, such as Italy, are also slated to receive MiniTT1 and FlexTT5 shipments, but their arrival is expected to trail somewhat the first wave of countries listed above. Also note that it may take several days for stock to make its way from distributor warehouses to the shelves of pro photo retailers.

The RF noise emitted by a trio of Canon Speedlites isn't as pronounced in the frequency range of the CE versions, such that LPA Design's Jim Clark expects the working range with RF-noisy remote Speedlites will be approximately 3X longer than that of US versions (without shielding). This is only a factor with the 430EX, 580EX and 580EX II, and only when these Speedlites are used as remote flashes.

The US versions of the MiniTT1 and FlexTT5 for Nikon are slated to ship later this year, while the CE versions for Nikon are due out in early 2010. More information is in an LPA Design press release.
