Photodex releases ProShow Producer
Wednesday, August 17, 2005 | by Rob Galbraith

Photodex today has released ProShow Producer for Windows, a full-featured slide show maker aimed at working photographers.

The program's feature list is long. In addition to the functions that are typical of slide show generation software, ProShow Producer adds precise control over the integration of pictures, video, text and audio on a slide, support for RAW formats from Canon, Nikon and others, ICC profile support, viewer interactivity (links can be placed on slides to navigate through the show, launch an external application, send an email and more), DVD menu creation and a range of output options including as an executable on a copy-protected CD.

As with other Photodex products, ProShow Producer is for Windows only (2000/XP). Also as with other Photodex products, support for viewing ProShow Producer-created shows on the Mac is limited to video and DVD output; the program doesn't create a Mac-compatible standalone slide show executable, nor is there a Mac-compatible plug-in for displaying shows in a web browser.

The software is US$399.95; a press release indicates that this price will rise to US$499.95 at an unspecified point in the future. Licensed users of ProShow Gold can upgrade to ProShow Producer for US$349.95. A fully functional 15-day trial version is also available.
