Light Speed: A Hands-On Guide to Creative Lighting featuring Joe McNally and Bob Krist
A Hands-On Guide to Creative Lighting, a DVD produced by Nikon USA and featuring photographers Joe McNally and Bob Krist, is now shipping. The US$39.95 DVD is chock-full of great tutorials covering the possible uses for Nikon's current crop of Creative Lighting System Speedlights.

A Hands-On Guide to Creative Lighting is divided into two sections: Lighting Basics and In the Field, with Bob Krist doing most of the first section solo, giving an introduction to lighting as well as detailed information on the configuration of various Nikon flash units and accessories, with special emphasis on the SB-800 and SB-900.

In the second section, Joe McNally builds several photos from scratch, discussing (with Krist, who serves as assistant and sidekick in this section) the placement and setup of the strobes and modifiers as he goes along. This section starts a bit slowly, but towards the end of the ballet dancers segment, through the remainder of the 2.5 hours of video, the lighting and Speedlight configuration tips, McNally's approach to sizing up a scene and placing lights, is superbly done. The DVD is not unlike McNally's 2005 effort for Nikon, The Speed of Light, but this time around there's considerably more information about how to light on location.
