Canon USA announces Photo Paper Pro Luster
Canon has announced the addition of Photo Paper Pro Luster to the range of papers available for its PRO-1, Pro9500 Mark II and Pro9000 Mark II desktop photo printers. It's to come in two sizes, 8.5 x 11 inches and 13 x 19 inches, and will ship in the U.S. late this month.

Trouble installing D4 firmware? Turn off networking, says Nikon
Nikon has amended the installation instructions for the D4 firmware update posted earlier this week. Now, those instructions include a workaround for D4 owners having difficulties getting the update to load: turn off the camera's networking feature before starting the update process.

Nikon D4, D800/D800E support added to DSLR Camera Remote apps
onOne Software has added support for the Nikon D4, D800 and D800E to its trio of DSLR Camera Remote apps for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, as well as the companion DSLR Camera Remote Server software for Mac and Windows. Fixed in the v1.4.3 releases are an incorrect image rotation problem affecting Nikon cameras as well as connection errors in the Windows server that tripped up newer Canon models.

LPA Design has updated its support database with tips on the use of the PocketWizard MultiMAX at events in which many other PocketWizards are in use, such as the London 2012 Olympics kicking off in July. How to engage Long Range mode, adjust contact times and move Custom IDs to different frequencies are among the topics covered, as well as switching on an as-yet-unreleased MultiMAX feature, called Patterns, which is to come in a firmware update some time in the weeks ahead.

The Camera Store, a pro photo dealer here in our hometown of Calgary and the producers of the 2011 spoof video Battle at F-Stop Ridge that has garnered over 2.3 million views, has just posted their latest humorous effort. Called The 2012 World Photo Games, the short video features store personnel engaged in various Olympics-inspired athletic events, with camera gear replacing batons and shot puts and film developer being substituted for Gatorade. It's quite funny, and almost certainly destined to go viral as well.

A memoir by former U.S. army photojournalist Fred Minnick, called Camera Boy, recently appeared on the Wall Street Journal's e-book bestseller list. Minnick's memoir covers his one-year tour of duty in Iraq in 2004, which he spent "with a Nikon in one hand and an M-16 in the other", he says.

Firmware updates address lockup problem in Nikon D4, D800 and D800E
Nikon has released firmware updates for the D4, D800 and D800E that correct an instance of these cameras locking up while in playback mode, as well as a network/wireless-related bug. The update for the D4 also fixes an error related to playback zoom, while the updates for the D800 and D800E eliminate the appearance of a dark shadow that could appear at the bottom of frames when these models were set to the 5:4 image area.
