| Casting light on the PocketWizard MiniTT1 and FlexTT5 - Continued |
 |
The blank wall photos below were shot with an EOS 5D Mark II, at shutter speeds ranging from 1/160 to 1/500. The HyperSync Offset value was selected to give the best result at 1/250, since that's the highest nearly-clean standard sync speed achievable with this camera.
The triggering methods represented are:
-
MicroSync The MicroSync Digital wireless transmitter and receiver
-
Cactus One of the better-regarded products in the class of so-called "eBay triggers," the Cactus Wireless Flash Trigger V2s is also unique among low-cost units in that it both claims, and actually has, U.S. FCC certification
-
Plus II The PocketWizard Plus II deployed as both transmitter and receiver
-
MultiMAX The PocketWizard MultiMAX set to Fast Mode (which reduces wireless signal delay slightly by reducing the number of bits of data sent during the transmission) and deployed as both transmitter and receiver
-
Wire A cable from the PC sync socket of the camera to the power pack
-
HyperSync A MiniTT1 with its HyperSync Offset value set to -200, transmitting to a MultiMAX receiver
The strobe was a Dyna-Lite Arena series pack set to 600ws and driving a 4080SP bi-tube head.

Looking at the HyperSync frames above 1/250, it's clear that you could,
with some finessing of the HyperSync Offset number to carefully place
the fully-lit area, still shoot certain compositions with flash, ones
that were conceived with cropping of the top and bottom in mind. Also, a much longer duration strobe will give a much more gradual shading at the top of the frame, such that even 1/500, combined with a higher HyperSync value and slower strobe, could be usable.
To make full use of the standard sync speed boost of this HyperSync mode with a camera like the EOS 5D Mark II, some experimentation will be required.
ControlTL is discussed on the next page.
