Links next to the thumbnails below are to full resolution files shot with a preproduction Canon EOS-1D Mark III, as well as the EOS-1D Mark II N and Nikon D2Xs (for comparison purposes). All photos are in the Adobe RGB colour space and include an embedded ICC profile. To get a proper look at the photos, download and open them in Photoshop or another image viewer that enables you to magnify them fully and that will display the shooting data in the IPTC Caption field. While some of the thumbnails are cropped, unless otherwise marked the downloadable files are uncropped.

 

To download, right-click on the link and select your browser's option for saving the photo to your hard drive. If you view them in your browser, and you're on Windows, they'll look flat, since no Windows browser can properly display photos with embedded ICC profiles. UPDATE, JUNE 13, 2007: the web browser Safari 3 for Windows, just released as a public beta, does colour manage the display of photos with embedded profiles.

Understanding the filename

	Canon EOS-1D Mark III at ISO 100 Notes: The shutter was left open for 47 seconds while the flower was lit with a flashlight. Long exposure noise reduction was enabled in the camera. 	Canon EOS-1D Mark III at ISO 100 Notes: To minimize the impact of strobe blur on this sometimes-moving subject, a shutter speed of 1/400 was used. With moderate flash duration strobes like the Elinchrom Style 600 S that lit this photo, the blurring "tail" of the light is clipped, which in turn helps image sharpness (and the DPP_NNSS version shows exceptional crispness). But, a shutter speed of 1/400 means that the extreme right side of the frame has the tell-tale thin dark band of a photo shot a sync speed that's one notch too high. Please be aware of that when you're looking at the shadow side of the face in any of the downloadable versions.
