Canon is working on Universal Binary versions of the Photoshop plug-ins it ships with its current and recent
imagePROGRAF printers. The new versions will enable users running Photoshop CS3 on Intel-based Macs to print through the Photoshop plug-in without having to resort to launching the program in slower Rosetta emulation mode, says David Sparer, Senior Manager of Professional Products Marketing at Canon USA.
Universal Binary plug-ins are expected for the following imagePROGRAF models (and perhaps certain other models as well):
- iPF5000
- iPF5100
- iPF6100
- iPF8000
- iPF9000
A release date for the Universal Binary plug-ins has not been set, though they are in the later stages of development, says Sparer. They are expected to be a free download from Canon websites.
The printer drivers, Photoshop plug-ins and related software for the iPF5100 and iPF6100 were recently posted on
Canon Japan's wide-format software download pages. The Mac versions of these plug-ins available for download are not Universal Binary.
