The Roanoke Times photographer Alan Kim attributes an alert news editor and knowledge of the Virginia Tech campus as factors enabling him to photograph the dramatic scene at America's worst shooting. The editor called Kim after the first shooting and the former Virginia Tech business student arrived on campus before the second shooting started. Kim's photos of emergency workers carring out the wounded ran worldwide.
