Sigma has today announced the SD14, a digital SLR with a new APS-C format 4.67(x3)-megapixel Foveon X3 sensor and the Sigma lens mount.

The Foveon X3 sensor design, unlike all other current image sensors, incorporates three layered photo-detectors at each pixel location, meaning it directly measures all three primary colors (RGB) at each pixel. Sigma lists the SD14's resolution as 2652 x 1768 x 3 to indicate this unique, full-color measurement pixel design.

Other changes from the camera's predecessor, the SD10, include a new, smaller body design, new 5-point AF system, and a new pentaprism viewfinder with 98% frame coverage.
