Last week's discovery of altered news photos, taken by Lebanese freelancer Adnan Hajj and distributed by Reuters, has sparked a handful of additional reports and commentary from sources such as The Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, and Editor and Publisher. Here's a short list of some of these stories:
Editor and Publisher has aggregated related stories from several sources, including:
- A report from Washington Post ombudsman Deborah Howell that denies blogger allegations that photos of bombing victims in Qana, Lebanon were staged.
- An Associated Press interview with a Lebanese civil defense worker who bloggers suspected of being a Hezbollah agent who directed the staging of photographs.
- A report from Photo District News on the phenomenon of bloggers examining news photos for signs of manipulation.
- A report on Reuters picture editor Gary Hershorn's comments on the Hajj photographs, both in a National Public Radio interview and in a Reuters blog posting.
Hany Farid, an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, has collected examples of digital photo manipulation over the years.
