Nikon is developing a firmware update for the D2X that will bring a number of the D2Xs' refinements to the earlier camera, says a story on Japanese-language web site RBB Today. The article notes that the following features will be rolled into the new firmware:

• In-camera trimming function
• Autofocus algorithm improvements
• Metering of the capture area only Hi-Speed Crop mode
• Adjustable delay for Focus Tracking with Lock-on
• Additional ISO increments between 800 and HI-1 (ISO 1600)
• Maximum ISO and minimum shutter speed options added to Auto ISO feature
• Black and white mode
• Ability to use the sensor cleaning mode when the camera is powered by the battery exclusively
• Files will be verifiable with Nikon's upcoming Image Authentication Software

RBB Today say the downloadable update will be released in the fourth quarter of 2006.
