Microsoft has posted an update to Windows that corrects an instance of rapid battery drain when a device is connected to the USB 2.0 port of a portable computer.

The KB918005 updater, which replaces various USB-related system files, is a free download for licensed users of Windows XP SP2. A Microsoft Knowledge Base article has additional information.
