Apple has announced its second Intel-based laptop, the 17-inch MacBook Pro, which will ship with a 2.16GHz Intel Core Duo processor. It will become available starting next week for a suggested list price of US$2,799.

The Macworld web site has a useful writeup on this new MacBook Pro, with a rundown of major features. Macworld notes that the new machine has an 8X dual-layer SuperDrive and both FireWire 800 and 400 ports, as opposed to the 4X single-layer SuperDrive and single FireWire 400 port of the already available 15-inch MacBook Pro.
