Epson has announced two new flatbed scanners aimed at professional photographers. Both models, the Perfection V700 Photo and the Perfection V750-M Pro, use a new Dual Lens System to provide 6400 dpi resolution for scanning of 35mm, 120, and 4 x 5-inch film as well as 4800 dpi resolution for scanning prints or other reflective media. Both scanners also carry an optical density (Dmax) rating of 4.0.
The higher-end model, the V750-M Pro, offers enhanced optics, and it will accept a new fluid mount accessory that permits wet scans, which can be used to correct for scratches and grain in black-and-white film.
In the U.S., the V700 Photo will become available in March 2006 for US$549. The V750-M Pro will ship in May 2006 and will cost US$799.
