FirewireDirect has announced the Ultraburn VIII, a multi-format 8X DVD burner that's available in FireWire 400 and FireWire 800 versions. It's compatible with Windows 98SE or higher and Mac OS 9.1 or higher (including OS X) and can write to DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, and DVD+RW, among other formats. Both versions are available online from FirewireDirect. The FW400 unit lists for US$259.95 and the FW800 model, which is also USB2.0 compatible, lists for US$309.95.
