Breeze Systems this week has released a feature-rich program for transferring photos from a Canon digital camera or any card reader to a Windows computer. Called Downloader Pro 1.0, the program offers a wealth of renaming and sorting options, lossless rotation of vertical JPEGs from cameras like the EOS 10D that record orientation information in the picture file, automatic embedding of ICC profiles in JPEGs (once you've associated a camera model with the profile to be embedded) and more.

The program can also apply IPTC caption data to JPEG, standard TIFF, Nikon RAW .NEF, Canon RAW .CRW and Canon RAW .TIF photos during the transfer. Author Chris Breeze has taken care to ensure that adding IPTC data to these RAW formats, which can be tricky, doesn't prevent them from being processed correctly. In testing here the IPTC data is picked up and read by a variety of applications on both PC and Mac platforms.
Downloader Pro is available in a 30 day trial version, and is US$27 to register.
