Sandisk's quarterly financial statement describes the significant price drop in flash memory products that all manufacturers and vendors have seen since the beginning of the year:
The average selling price per megabyte of memory shipped declined 33% in the first six months of 2001, due primarily to competitive pricing pressures driven by excess supply in the market. Average unit selling prices decreased by 43% during the first six months of 2001, due to a 33% price decline per megabyte, and a decrease in the average megabytes per unit associated with an increase in sales of lower capacity cards. The average unit selling price had decreased 6% in the first six months of 2000.
