AT&T Wireless has begun to roll out GPRS data across its digital mobile phone network. The service kicked off last week in Seattle, and requires a Motorola Timeport 7382i handset. GPRS, a protocol for transmitting data across a GSM wireless connection, should enable the transmission of digital photographs several times faster than the current 1-1.5K/second throughput of competing carriers. An article in The Standard, however, suggests that the cost of the service may effectively prohibit the sending of larger image files.
