Filling a major gap in their lens line for D1 and DCS 620 shooters, Nikon has announced the AF Nikkor 14mm f2.8 ED, a D series lens that offers the equivalent of about a 21mm to 22mm lens once the focal length magnification of these cameras is factored in.

The lens' major features include:
- A minimum aperture of f22
- Accepts rear filters
- Autofocus/manual switch on the lens barrel
- D1 Focal length equivalent of about 21mm (21.7mm to be more precise, using the D1's actual focal length multiplier of 1.55x)
- DCS 620 Focal length equivalent of about 22mm (using the DCS 620's actual focal length multiplier of 1.61x)
With a list price of US$1950, Nikon's 14mm f2.8 is considerably pricier than both the Sigma 14mm f2.8 EX and Tamron SP AF 14mm f2.8, though as with most Nikon glass, one can expect a top-notch lens. Dealers in the U.S. will be able to take orders starting Thursday, for shipment starting in July.
