| Kodak operated a nuclear reactor in Rochester basement |

In a lengthy article,
The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle recently revealed that for more than thirty years Kodak operated a small nuclear reactor in a concrete bunker in the basement of one of the buildings in Kodak Park, the company's industrial campus in Rochester, New York. The device, called a californium neutron flux multiplier, was installed in 1974 and removed under U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission supervision in 2007.
The reactor, about the size of a refrigerator, contained 3.5 pounds of enriched uranium -- which the
Democrat and Chronicle describes as "weapons grade" -- and was used to do research on neutron imaging. The article includes a low resolution picture of the reactor, which looks a bit like a 1950s television robot.
