Nikon has also announced the AF-S 85mm f/1.8G, an update of the fast aperture telephoto that features:
- A nine-element optical design
- Rounded seven-blade aperture diaphragm
- Silent Wave autofocus with focus mode switch (M/A and M)
- 31.5in/80cm close focusing distance
- 67mm filter size
- A minimum aperture of f/16
- FX Format coverage (the lens is compatible with DX Format SLRs too)
- Weight of 12.4oz/350g
- General appearance that's similar to the AF-S 85mm f/1.4, only smaller
The new lens, like the AF 85mm f/1.8D it replaces, does not incorporate Nikon's Vibration Reduction technology.
The AF-S 85mm f/1.8G, with Lens Hood HB-62 and Lens Case CL-1015, will be available in March at an expected street price of US$499.95 in the U.S. In Canada, the manufacturer's suggested retail price is CDN$529.95 and the ship date has been set for March 22.
